Our 3 Favorite Turkey Songs

Turkey is not something that we eat on a regular basis. Honestly the only time we have a turkey is on Thanksgiving. It is definitely a staple at our house. My kids love talking about turkeys. They are silly animals, they walk funny, and have a unique animal sound. This is the perfect combination for some silly songs. Here are our 3 favorite turkey songs!

5 Fat Turkeys

I started singing this song about a week ago to my kids just randomly to kill some time. I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked to sing this song since then. This is a little counting rhyme that actually counts backwards from 5. While this slightly bothers my 2 year old, it has been excellent to practice asking her what number I will sing next. There are a lot of versions to this song, currently we just use the most simple, and just sing the same song 5 times and only change the number.

5 fat turkeys are we,
We slept all night in a tree,
When the cook came around,
We couldn’t be found,
And that’s why were here you see.

*Change the number till you have no turkeys left.

Hello Mr. Turkey

tune: “If You’re Happy and You Know It”

This song is sooo fun! I love the rhythm aspect that comes with clapping.

Hello Mr. Turkey,
How are you? (clap, clap)
Hello Mr. Turkey,
How are you? (clap, clap)
With a wobble, wobble, wobble,
And a gobble, gobble, gobble
Hello Mr. Turkey
How are you? (clap, clap)

Gobble Gobble Says the Bird

tune: If You’re Happy and You Know It

I have no idea where this song comes from! My mom used to sing this song with us and we loved it. Even when we were grown and singing it for younger siblings it was a favorite. Mostly because my mother definitely got into waddling like a bird. Not sure if I know someone that can waddle as excellently as her. You sing this song standing up and walking in a circle. You walk with your arms as wings, knees slightly bent, and head bobbing. When the feet wobble, your move them in and out.

Gobble gobble gobble gobble says the bird,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble says the bird,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble,
And his feet go wobble, wobble,
Gobble Gobble Gobble Gobble says the bird.
