5 Green and Speckled Frogs – Free DIY Manipulative Visual

For the month of August one of the 4 songs that I decided to focus on with my kiddos is ‘5 Green and Speckled Frogs’. My kids love to count and this song has been perfect. I created a fun little visual for my kids to use while singing the song this month. They love it. For lyrics, follow this link to the song and tune.

It is a manipulative visual, meaning they can actually move the visual with their hands and have a purpose. In this case, they turn the frogs around the log to make them jump into the pond. This little visual is super easy to make, inexpensive, and I even included the free printable at the end of this post.

Materials:

Paper Towel Roll
Brown craft paper –  I used the back of a brown grocery bag
Free frog printable
glue/tape
scissors

Directions:

1- Print free frog printable (bottom of post)
2- Cut out the individual frogs and waves in the pond
3- Cut the brown paper bag to the rectangular dimensions of 9in x 2in
4- Glue the brown paper rectangles around the paper towel roll fairly tightly but enough that they can move the frogs around.
5- Glue the frog on the top
6- Flip the paper around the ‘log’ and glue the waves on the other side.
7- SING THE SONG! (video below)

Have fun with the visual! Click on the picture of the frog printable below for the free printable download!
