Summer is still in full swing and the 4th of July is my favorite holiday. I love the community events, parades, BBQs, and even the fireworks. Here are 4 songs we are singing in July. I put together two patriotic songs, a summer song, and one just plain silly song. Make sure to follow along on my Instagram account (check my profile video highlights) for demo videos of the songs throughout the month.
4 Songs We Are Singing in July
America the Beautiful
Text: Katherine Lee Bates
Music: Samuel A. Ward
I only sing the first verse with my children currently, but the other verses are lovely as well. I remember learning one in 4th grade (10 years old) and still remember it. This song is not as simple as other children’s songs, but hopefully will help well-round my kiddos in the scope of songs.
Oh beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain,
For purple mountains majesties above the the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
I Love to Watch the Fireworks
This is an easy song I made up in anticipation of the fireworks. My kids (and husband love it). It is to the tune, I’m a Little Teapot. I also have included a lyric printable for printable you can click to download and as a Pinterest image you can pin as well. You can follow me on Pinterest or click the Pinterest share button at the bottom to find the lyric image.
I love to watch the fireworks
Here they go!
Boom Crackle BANG
It’s quite a show.
Many bright colors
Fill the sky,
I love to watch fireworks on the 4th of July!
This song is just a chant with little hand actions. It could be considered a fingerplay. At the end it has a little “GOTCHA” that kids of all ages love. I will also post this song with a demo and video on my instagram in a couple of days, if the lyrics and actions are hard to understand. Sorry about the wait, but this song is worth it!
Baby shark baby shark (put thumb and pointer together like a shark jaw)
Do do .. do do (say the first ‘do do’ fast: pause: than say the next ‘do do’ fast)
Brother shark brother shark (use thumb and all fingers for the jaw)
Do do.. do do
Mommy shark mommy shark (use two hands, connected at the wrist for jaw)
Do do.. do do
Daddy shark daddy shark (use whole arms as the jaw)
Do do ..do do
Now we swim, now we swim (make swimming arms)
Do do.. do do
From the shark, from the shark
Do do, do do
GOTCHA! (grab child into hug *optional)
Oh, What Do You Do in the Summertime?
By: Dorothy S. Andersen
This is a fun little song about the fun and relaxing time of summer.
Oh, what do you do in the summertime, when all the world is green?
Do you fish in a stream, or lazily dream on the banks as the clouds go by?
Is that what you do?
So do I?
